It’s not a true offseason until players boast about being in the best shape of their lives.
Speaking to Pewter Report’s Adam Silvon, a leaner Baker Mayfield touted improved conditioning ahead of his seventh NFL season.
“I definitely am in the best shape I’ve been in a long time,” Mayfield said. “I just found my routine, found a gym and some trainers that I really like, and it’s important. You learn that throughout the process [and as] the years go on. Honestly, being able to stay in one place throughout the offseason helps, too. I found some great people to help me get to this point.”
After bouncing around teams the last two years, Mayfield will begin his second season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback signed a three-year, $115 million deal after leading them to an NFC South title during a resurgent 2023.
In a make-or-break year, Mayfield set career highs in completion rate (64.3%), passing yards (4,044), and passing touchdowns (28). He accrued 686 yards and six touchdowns in two playoff games, including a lopsided first-round win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 29-year-old is feeling good ahead of his second season steering a Buccaneers offense that also retained Mike Evans this offseason.
“Continuity within that, for me, always helps out,” Mayfield said. “Translating it from one year to the next, it’s just the knowledge, the experience, and the reps when it comes to the system or just reps with certain guys. That continuity can always improve – now it’s just about going out and doing it.”
