The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been linked to a plethora of defense options this offseason as they continue to grow on that side of the ball. We have seen them attached to Denzel Ward, Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns, and many others in the NFL Draft.
As teams start to analyze their cap situations, one specific player who is a cut candidate could turn into a viable option for the Bucs.
Dan Graziano of ESPN reported on Wednesday that former Pro Bowl defensive end Joey Bosa could be a salary cap casualty in the coming weeks. Graziano writes, “The people I talk to think that’s the likely outcome, but they thought the same thing last year, and Bosa and the Chargers were able to get a deal done to keep him there. He’s scheduled to make $25.36 million this season, but nearly half of that comes in the form of a $12.36 million roster bonus due next month. So while none of his 2025 money is guaranteed, the Chargers would obviously want to decide by the time they have to pay that roster bonus.”
Now, as for the Bucs in this situation, Bosa is likely to sign a one-year prove-it deal with a team. The Bucs, who are strapped for salary cap space, would be willing to make something work with Bosa as the team plays to win now.
Jason Licht has shown this before with veterans in the past, especially pass rushers, so a move like this is right down the Bucs avenue.
