TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — NFL fans used a staggering amount of mobile data at stadiums this past season, according to data from Verizon.
The 2024 Consumer Connections report breaks down the amount of data that fans used, on average, per game at each NFL stadium. Fans at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, one of the largest in the NFL, used 6.2 terabytes (TB) of data per game, according to the telecommunications company.
At Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, the average amount of data used by fans was 3.3 TB per game, which ranked 16th in the league, Verizon said. Usage at the stadium increased 97% over 2023.
The Buccaneers played nine home games this season, which puts the total data usage at about 29.7 TB at Raymond James Stadium. Verizon said total usage at NFL stadiums for the 2024-25 season was approximately 960 TB. Video made up 25% of that data usage.
The numbers only include data used by Verizon customers, so the actual usage numbers are likely much higher when factoring in other mobile providers.
“Fans at NFL stadiums come together to tailgate, watch the action, cheer on their team and chow down on nachos,” Verizon wrote in the report. “They’re also creating and sharing their own experience of the game. Calling, texting and using social media to connect with fellow fans. Checking other scores and following fantasy teams. Engaging with on-site entertainment like AR and VR activations. And they’re doing it all more than ever before.”
Every stadium saw growth in mobile usage this past season except for Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Allegiant Stadium, homes to the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively.
