TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — To steal a line from Michael Scott in “The Office,” Conor Geekie isn’t superstitious, but he is a little “stitious.”
The Tampa Bay Lightning rookie forward has some rather interesting pregame rituals. For example: After warmups, he always exits the ice… backwards.
“One of my teammates in juniors, Zach Benson, he used to do a spin going off the ice and I would spin too and push him off the ice and then I’d go out backwards and I’ve kind of just done it ever since,” Geekie said. “It’s one of those things I’ve just always done since juniors, but I definitely get a hard time about it.”
Geekie’s also been caught several times on camera essentially showering himself with a water bottle during warmups.
“It started in juniors. I was feeling a little tired one game and I just started draining myself with water, played decent that game so figured I’d keep it going,” he said. “It’s nice. I get a break, get to chat with the trainers, we play a little game with the towel and stuff like that. It just kind of keeps me loose and wakes me up at the same time.”
